Obituary of Kathleen Teresa MITCHEL

MITCHEL, Kathleen “Kathy” October 14, 1927 – December 3, 2017 Kathleen Kealey was born and grew up in Ballymoney, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. She was a talented pianist and was the member of a band that played at dances all across Northern Ireland. She sailed for Canada the day after her father’s funeral and arrived in Calgary in June of 1954. Kathleen moved to Rockyford to be closer to her fiancé, Brian Mitchel. They were married Nov. 17, 1954 and were together for 52 years until Brian’s death in 2006. Kathleen remembered fondly the way she was accepted into the town of Rockyford. They moved to Strathmore in 1963 where they raised their three children. Kathleen enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, and her good friends in town. In 2011, Kathleen became the first resident of the Sagewood Community and lived there until her death. She is survived by her 3 children, Pat (Blaine), Dan (Sheilagh), and Donna; 6 grandchildren, Ryan (Cyan), Meagan, Jay (Kelly), Kim (Graham), Connor, and Turner; and 1 great-grandson, Jack. Kathleen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Brian and her younger brother, Gerry Kealey. Kathleen’s family gratefully acknowledge the staff at Sagewood, especially the HCA’s and RN’s in the Namaka Community for their loving care and kindness in their day to day treatment of Kathleen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary (#800, 7015 MacLeod Trail S.W., Calgary, AB, TH 2K6). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Lord of All Lutheran Church (112 Lakeside Blvd. Strathmore) at 11:00 a.m. Interment Strathmore Cemetery.
