Obituary of Donald George Bruce Clark

Don passed during the night November 15, 2018 after battling a steroid reaction and stroke.

Don was born in Calgary on February 7, 1937. He joined the Calgary Fire Department in 1957 and retired as a Captain of 15 years in 1993. An avid athlete and sportsmen, he played hockey with his brother Terry and Bobby Milligan in the Chinook league in the 60’s. Then took up skiing, working with the CSPS and Ski Friends at Lake Louise and Sunshine and later joined the Senior Alpine Ski Club until injuries caught up with him in his seventies.
Growing up around Stampede Park, he began working in his early teens with the Thoroughbreds, got into rodeo and became the Starter for Calgary Harness racing in the 1970’s. The Spring Bull Sale, Rodeo Royal, there was always something at the Grounds to get involved in. He enjoyed working with the Strathmore and District Ag Society in later years.
Don loved to travel the backroads of Alberta and the Western States it gave him a chance to make new friends and keep in touch with old ones. Don became the neighborhood helper with willing hands and a wealth of experience and stories.
Don was predeceased by his Parents: Bruce and Nellie, his brother Terry, and his nephew Kelly. He is survived by his sister, Gail (Jack), niece Terie-Rae, Ryan (Rebekkah) and Kelley. His son Mike (Monica), ex-wife Donna; and Terry’s children, Toby (Paula), and Bree.  Special thanks to Connie Jones and Barb Kapteyn for all their help over these difficult 16 months. There will be a drop-in memorial service on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Wheatland Funeral Chapel (Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m. with refreshments. Interment will take place next summer in Strathmore. He will be buried in a plot close to his brother, Terry.
