Obituary of Kenneth Brun Mellsen

On Aug. 30, 2018, Kenneth Brun Mellsen, at the age of 86, passed away at Sagewood Care Centre in Strathmore, where he had resided for the last few years. His parents Chris and Ellen Mellsen predeceased him as well as his brother Stanley, his parents residing in the Standard area to farm, moving into the village later. This quiet man who loved a good joke and even an occasional practical joke, leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Shirley; four children, Clayton (Brenda) with grandchildren Damian Mellsen (Jose), Araylla Lee (Jason), Evan Mellsen (Shannon) and Feyan Mellsen; Susan DeNeve (Rod) with grandchildren Kai DeNeve (Sherry) and Kara Mourn (Garret); Leon Mellsen; and Jeanette VanNieukerk (Lane) with grandchildren Charity Krieger (Mike) and Curtis Clark. Olds College claimed a wee bit of his time, and after marrying Shirley they settled into the farming life. Ken put his hand to other interests through the years besides farming: photography, building a boat (the missile), furniture and toys and even a family log house, bus driving, raising miniature horses and donkeys, keeping a little cabin retreat at Buffalo Lake, and completing an amazing 50 years of service with Canada Postal Service. A Funeral Service for Ken will be held at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Standard where he was both baptized and married, on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Standard Cemetery.
