On Sunday August 26, 2018, Marina Palumbo of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully at the age of 83. Marina is survived by her four children, Lynne (Jeff)of Standard, AB, Cheryl (Mark) of Stettler, AB, Mike (Liana) and Jeff (Jenny)both of Golden, BC; eight grandchildren, Annette, Nic, Dani, Morgan, Isabella, Hannah, Autumn and Kai; sister, Alice; brother, Lauren (Phyllis); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marina was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Isabel McKiel.

Marina was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick and grew up in Tide Head, New Brunswick.  She moved to Fredericton, NB to attend New Brunswick Teacher’s college when she was 19, starring on the women’s college basketball team.  Upon graduation, Marina accepted a teaching position in Parson BC and remained in the Columbia Valley for 50 years before moving to Medicine Hat eleven years ago to pursue her love of square dancing, travel and community service.  She was very fond and proud of her work with children in the area that needed assistance with their reading skills.  The activities closest to her heart were square dancing, playing in the Mexican Train and Crib Clubs, the Dejong bus trips, volunteering for the church and being a member of the Red Hatters.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Fifth Avenue Memorial United Church, 476 – 4th Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta. A Celebration of Marina’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 3:00 pm at the Mount 7 Rec Plex (formerly the High School gym) in Golden, British Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, Marina asked that donations be made to either the Medicine Hat 5th Avenue Memorial United Church, the Medicine Hat Champion Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society
