Obituary of Joel Beverley Anderson

Joel B. Anderson died Thursday, May 24, in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 93.  Joel was born October 3, 1924 in Revelstoke, B.C., the second child of Albert and Carol Anderson.  Living in Vancouver all his adult life, he worked for many years as an engineer custodian for the Vancouver School Board, and enjoyed being part of many community organizations and activities, including photographing many baton-twirling competitions.  Joel moved to Calgary in 2006 to be closer to his extended family.  As a single person with a big heart, Joel was everybody's "Uncle Joel."  He had a soft heart for children and in his later years, found purpose in helping organizations that aid children or people at risk.  Joel was fiercely independent, but as his hearing, vision, and mobility decreased, life and communication, especially, became a challenge, and he was well cared for at Chinook Care Centre in Calgary for the last two and a half years.

Predeceased by his parents, two sisters and their spouses, Joel leaves behind seven nieces and nephews and their spouses and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom he took an interest in right up to the end.  A private burial service was held in Strathmore, Alberta.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23 at Hope Community Covenant Church (Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m.
