Obituary of Margarite Neisje Godkin

Margarite Neisje (Vooys) Godkin passed away peacefully March 8, 2019, at the age of 96 years.  Margarite, the youngest child and only daughter of Arie and Margarite Vooys of Majorville, was born in Gleichen, Alberta, on November 4, 1922, a sister to four brothers; Arie, Leonard, Raymond and Gilbert.  She attended East Majorville School and then completed grade 12 in Milo and Cluny.  Joys of her younger life included riding horseback checking cattle in the hills towards the Bow River and playing baseball.

Margarite married Stanley Haig Godkin on September 22, 1950.  They farmed in Majorville where they raised three sons (Neil, Ian and Keith), then retired to Maple Ridge, B.C. in 1973.  In her retirement years, Margarite enjoyed many craft activities and travelling with Stan on his fishing trips and other travels.  Stan and Margarite moved to Summerland in 1984, where Stan passed away November 29, 1986. 

Margarite moved to High River in 1987.  Her love of crafts continued with a special interest in miniatures, watching sports remained a favourite activity, and visiting with friends and family was something she enjoyed immensely. In 2010, she moved to Strathmore, where she lived at Meadowlark Care, then Wheatland Lodge, and lastly Sagewood Care.

Margarite was predeceased by husband Stan and her parents Arie & Margarite; brothers and sisters-in-law; Arie (Irene, Ann), Leonard (Ione), Raymond (Ruth), and Gilbert (Elsie). 

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; Neil of Keg River, Ian (Barbara) and Keith (Betty) of Milo.

Margarite will also be lovingly remembered by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Jim (Anylu) and children Isabelle and William of Arrowwood/Calgary, Jana (Chris Bartsch) and children Allyson and Andrew of Milo, and Bill (Dani) and children Alissa and Paislee of Milo.

A memorial celebration for Margarite was held on Saturday, March 16, 1:30 p.m. at Milo Community Hall.
