Obituary of Alan Edward Dixon Bishop

It is with sadness and blessings that we say goodbye to our husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather Alan. He was born February 17, 1944 and spent the next 64 years on the farm at Carseland. In 2008, Mom and Dad moved to Strathmore where life would be more manageable. Dad spent the last couple of years at Sagewood, where he struggled with the final stages of Parkinson’s. Papa passed on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the age of 75 years.

Alan loved the farm, his cows, and all that the land and family brought to his life. Alan worked hard but was always open to enjoy the social graces of the community as well. Whether it be playing ball, hockey, trapshooting, or golf, it was the camaraderie of his friends and family that brought him joy and laughter. His involvement in many communities outside that of Carseland, Dalemead, and Indus equated to many friends and his name is well known afar.

Alan is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lorraine; son Craig (Heather) Bishop; daughter Laine (Harry) Sakaguchi; sister Joyce (Mike) Zwerzinski; his beloved granddaughters Julia Bishop, Emily Sakaguchi, and Kyra Sakaguchi; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his parents Dick and Frances Bishop.

Butch, as he was known to many, leaves a legacy in his family and farm that are the cornerstones of his being. Papa will remain in our hearts forever. The family is truly happy for Dad and the strong example he exuded to not only his family but everyone he encountered. The family would also like to give our sincerest thanks to Reid Miller, who is a second son to Dad, for his help and support. We miss you deeply Papa.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Lord of All Lutheran Church (112 Lakeside Blvd., Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Wheatland and Area Hospice Society (PO Box 2154, Strathmore, AB, T1P 1K3 or at https://www.wheatlandhospice.ca/donate).
