Obituary of Ragnhild Marie Teare

August 5, 1920 – February 14, 2017
Ragnhild Marie Teare passed away peacefully at the Strathmore Hospital on Tuesday, February 14th, 2017 at the age of 96 years young. Marie was born on August 5, 1920, at Nurse MacKenzie’s Home in Strathmore the second oldest of seven children to Andrew and Elise Hildahl. She attended school in Glencairn before moving to Strathmore High School for Grade 12. Unfortunately, her mother became quite ill and had to be hospitalized, so she left school to return home to care for her siblings while her father worked on the farm. A year later she returned to Strathmore and she began working for Palardy’s Transport where she met Fred Teare, her future husband in the late 1930’s. They married in 1940 and their family grew with the addition of their daughter Sharon in 1944 and two sons Gaylon in 1949 and John in 1950. Over the years Marie was involved in many community activities being President of the Home and School Association, member of UCW, a Sunday School Teacher and later she served in many position with the Happy Gang. She leaves behind to mourn her passing her daughter Sharon, her son’s Gaylon (Janet) and John (Dawn). Her grandchildren Tammy (Mike), Sherry (Don), Earl (Glenda), Christopher (Krista), Erin, Shannon (Adam), Michael (Megan) as well as 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great- grandchildren. Marie was predeceased by her parents Andrew in 1964 and Elise in 1971, her sister Ruth in 1984, her husband Fred in 1988, her sister Lois in 2001, her brother Penard in 2002, her brother Tom in 2003, her son-in-law Robert in 2007, her sister Elna in 2015, and her sister Esther in 2016. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Strathmore United Church at 2:00 pm. Private family internment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in memory of Marie directly to the Kidney Foundation of Canada (6007 1A Street SW, Calgary, AB, T2H 0G5) or an organization of the donor’s choice.
