Obituary of Doreen Margaret FAY

FAY, Doreen Margaret It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mom and Gran, Doreen Margaret Fay (nee Lyle) on Thursday December 22, 2016 at the age of 95. Doreen was born in Stettler, AB on July 2, 1921 to Jack and Hazel Lyle. She grew up in and around the Edberg/Buffalo Lake area with her 3 siblings. She left home to attend secretarial school at the Camrose College and there she met the love of her life, Langley Shirras (Pete) Fay. The newlyweds lived in Winnipeg while Pete was in the army and that is where their eldest daughter Ada Marie (Alan) was born. From Winnipeg the young family moved to the family farm at Laura Saskatchewan where 3 more daughters followed Carol (Rick), Nancy (Jack) and Candace (Jim). Doreen’s happiest times were spent on the farm until Pete’s untimely death in 1973. Doreen was “Gran” to 4 grandsons Aaron, Aric, Dylan and Sean as well as to 2 great-grandsons Zeke and Zane. Doreen and Pete were avid square dancers and Doreen continued to pursue that lifelong hobby well into her 80’s. She made so many friends and enjoyed such a healthy, active lifestyle thanks to square dancing. Doreen was a very artistic, creative person and an incredible seamstress. She dressed 4 daughters, numerous dolls and herself with such style and on a shoestring budget. She worked many different jobs in her long life but her best work was done as Mom. Doreen was small in stature but her friendly personality and quick wit made her stand out above the crowd. She loved to socialize but, she also cherished her quiet times with her books and listening to her music. Her ready smile, kind caring heart, encouraging way, and strong determination will be greatly missed. A celebration of Doreen’s life will take place on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Lord of All Lutheran Church (Strathmore) at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary (201, 222-58 Ave. S.W., Calgary, T2H 2S3).
